An Ocean is not an obstacle
The Atlantic Ocean covers one fifth of the earth’s surface. Inspite of this size there is no an obstacle for a natural partnership coming from heart and individual help:
For more than 30 years the Alfons Goppel Foundation, established on January 8th, 1980, named and founded by the former Bavarian State Minister, Dr. h.c. Alfons Goppel has been engaged in South America. The aim of the Foundation is to help social poor and underprivileged children to get a better education by attending schools and that they come to a certain level of education and training to start and lead an independant and selfresponsible life later in their life.
In short terms, the motto is „help for self-help“.
With the conciliation resp. mediation of 160 twinnings in Ecuador the Foundation started its work. These partnerships / twinnings give children a possibility to attend private (one has to pay fees) public schools. A partnership with a child is not only a very sustainable way to help but is also an enrichment for both sides, a very personal way to help. The personal contact of the twinning-parents with “their child” is possible and mostly present and is desired by both sides. The number of twinnings is growing steadily and has reached more than 1000 at the moment. Regularly, the twinning-parents have a chance to exchange with the children either by personal visits in the country or by post. So we speak of a very lively exchange and contact.
Beside these twinnings or partnerships in Ecuador the Foundation helps financally in special chosen projects in Paraguay, Brasilia and other parts of South America. These projects are independent and have mostly onther donors or can help themselves and do not need complete support from the Foundation’s side.
An empty stomach can not study easily …
Due to this reason the Foundation in cooperation with the “Schwestern zum Guten Hirten” (sisters of the good shepard) in Guayaquil with a “desayuno escolar” (school breakfast) in a kindergarden with primary school (classes 1 – 6). From the Foundation the costs for a school-breakfast of 150 from the total 250 kindergarden and school-children are covered, correspondingly 0,50 € per child/day.
With the help and participation of Vestner Aufzüge GmbH to help the project we can provide this school-breakfast. We would like to thank Vestner Aufzüge GmbH in the name of all children that they get a school-breakfast and can study not with an “empty stomach”.
